AURORA METROPOLIS is the official personal blog site of Lem Leal Santiago. He started Aurora on June 10, 2010 but published his first entry, a poem entitled “Isang Araw ng Panliligaw” on June 14, 2010.
Prior to Aurora, the author had lots of blog accounts in different blog hosting sites. Unfortunately, he chose to abandon all of them if he felt that he cannot write anymore. He’s a good writer, (I guess) especially when he writes using the native language, Tagalog. However, he just considered himself as mature writer when he decided to maintain Aurora as his personal writing hub.
Aurora was born when the author was still active in the advocacy of upholding the rights of Filipino lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LBGTs). He started to use his writing skills to express his sentiments over certain issues involving LGBTs. This blog became his avenue in publishing short stories and commentaries which he believed can boost the morale of Pinoy LGBTs.
Over the years, Aurora published articles on various social issues and the author’s personal experiences which he thought could help readers’ understanding on certain topics. Some of its articles topped readership views on WordPress Philippines and became inspiration to other frustrated young writers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lem Leal Santiago realized that he has a talent in writing when he was in Grade 5. He tried joining school publications in elementary and high school but he failed. While waiting for the right time, he practiced his prowess in academics where he received exemplary grades in writing short stories and essays in his Filipino subject.
His fate gave him a huge chance to show his skills when he luckily passed the competitive writing examination and became part of Ang Pamantasan, the official student publication of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He institutionalized the Filipino section in the university paper through an Editorial Board Resolution, thus, made him its first Filipino editor in 2005. As an editor, he was lucky to be given a space in AP’s opinion page and he called it “Tambuli”.
After his stint as a campus journalist, he created several blog sites so that he could still share his opinion and his stories to others. Unfortunately, he failed to maintain all of them because of procrastination and ‘writer’s block’. He became a freelance writer and somehow earned money from writing and organizing events while working as a call center agent.
When he quit the BPO industry in 2010, he found more time to continue writing and created Aurora Metropolis. Since then, he took so much care of the site where he translates all his emotions in words.
He currently serves as a volunteer for different causes related to the Philippine capital Manila. Now, he dedicates Aurora to the city that he truly loves. He would like to empower the site to provide more inspiration to our young people, especially the Manileño youth.
